Pulau Flores Information on transportation to Flores
Posted: Thu November 22, 2007 03:46 AM UTC
Hi, I am planning to visit Flores and Komodo Island at this end of December. Is it the right season to visit these two islands? Can anyone provide me the following information:
1) where to get the bus cum ferry ticket from Mataram,Lombok to Labuhan Bajo, Flores? How much is the cost and how long long it takes to arrive at Labuhan Bajo? And whether can I get the same transport package from Labuhan Bajo back to Mataram?

2) Can I travel to Moni from Labuhan Bajo by public transport in 1 or 2 day? How much? Any better suggestion?

Hi,
End of December ussualy is the time of high tide. Maybe you will face some ferry delay.
1. I think you wont find a bus direct to Labuhan Bajo from Mataram, but you can take bus to Bima (Sumbawa Island), and continue your journey to Labuhan Sape. This town is at the eastern tip of Sumbawa Island, and the place to get aboard ferry to Komodo Island and Labuhan Bajo.
You better to go early from Mataram since the last bus to Labuhan sape from Bima is around 05.00 pm. And the journey from Mataram to Bima will take approx. 7 hours. Yes it is a long journey.
I am sorry I can answer about the ticket fare. Try to seek information about that at Lonely Planet.
2. You can go to Moni with public transport. From Labuhan Bajo you take bus to Ende. The journey will take 6 hours drive, except if there is landslide in Bajawa region. From Ende you take bus to Maumere, but get down at Moni. Just tell the bus conductor about your destination.
Happy travelling...

2) I did the trip three weeks ago in the opposite direction, from Moni to Labuan Bajo. I took a direct bus (means it doesn't stop in each and every village) from Moni to Ruteng (nine hrs, 75 000 IDR), stayed in Ruteng over night and the next morning took a shared car (30 000 IDR) to Labuan Bajo, 3.5 hrs.
Fantastic trip, beautiful landscape, I'd do it again anytime.

Thank you very much for the information.I hope the weather is fair then so that my journey will not be disrupted. I would like to visit Ruteng too on my way back from Moni to Labuhan Bajo.
