| Olinda | Olinda info Posted: Wed November 21, 2007 02:31 PM UTC
Hello,
I have collected that Recife is not safe place. But what about Olinda. Both are only away 5KM. Is it Olinda quite safer and are there many tourists there ? Is there a nice beach in Olinda where tourists prefer or various beaches ? How big is the place ? If I stay in the city center how far is the beach. could i walk the area on foot or is not that small place? I have read one suggestion about accommodation to Pousada od Amparo. Anybody else has any other economic suggestions? Thanks! George |

Safety is relative. Stay aware of your surroundings anywhere in Brazil and do not wear or carry anything that would attract undue attention.
The beach in Recife, Boa Viagem, is beautiful, but is posted as having sharks. The beaches in Olinda are polluted, although it is nice to stroll around the historic part of town (on the hill) during the day and there are some breakwaters that have tables set up at night. There are lovely beaches an hour to the south (Porto de Galinhas) and to the north (Itamaraca), among others.
