Ko Phi Phi Don Getting Married
Posted: Wed November 21, 2007 12:28 PM UTC
Hi, I am getting married at Phi Phi Island Village Resort and Spa next year. We are having a Western Wedding but are not sure if we will get legally married in Thailand. I was wondering if anyone had been married there before?Any hints or tips? Can you write your own ceremony??

contact your embassy in Thailand, they will guide you how to be legally married in Thailand. When you say legal, your talking about documents per se, ceremony has nothing to do with it.

You don't say which country you are from and I am not seeing it on your profile, so difficult to answer. I know if you were to come from Britain you would have to go to the embassy to have it "transferred" into English law. I would imagine that this would apply for most countries. I would suggest speaking to somebody at an embassy in your own country before you leave to find out exactly what you need to do/what documents you will need to acquire in order to make your marriage legal - that way, you know in advance of your wedding and can have everything ready to take to your embassy in Thailand - you may have to travel to a large city such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai.... in order to sort it all out. Also, from experience transferring from Thai to English - photocopies will not do, seals and stamps must all be in order and everything has to be authenticated by specific offials - find out in advance - this is, after all your big day :) Good luck!
