Mazatlán Roaming around Mazatlan

Another couple and my wife and I will be going to Mazatlan at the end of January. We hope to rent a car and wander about in addition to lapping up a bit of luxury. I speak Spanish so we will be traveling quite independently. Any suggestions for day trip or nearby adventure, culture or fun. Thanks.

Lots of places to roam, El Quelite, Concordia, Copala, El Rosario, and a couple more, if you want culture, check out the Plaza Machado and see if there are any events taking place, great place to be in the evenings.

Let me suggest an "out of town" trip that requires no car. Take a boat over to Isla de la Piedra (Stone Island). 12 mile of empty beach, the first hundred yards full of little thatch restaurants with hammocks and seafood. Good for beach walking, swimming, strolling musicians, Robinson Crusoe feeling.
Try Victor's restaurant for a culinary/entertainment experience: Victor is a character.

Don't take the tour, just go over by yourself for a day marooned on a troical island.

Villa Union has the best sea food at a place called El Cuchupetas, ask anyone in town where it is. Best seafood you will ever eat. Barbacue fish, you will not be disappointed. Get there early as it closes early, we were the last to leave, everytime we went there, at least 20 times. Oh and get the coconut balls outside before you go in, from the vendors selling confections. We have rented a car for many years and have found lot's of hidden places. Also drive up into the Mountains after breakfast at the Shrimp Bucket with the local business crowd.
