Uluru National Park (Ayers Rock) Uluru and the Olgas in 3D/2N
Posted: Tue November 20, 2007 03:06 PM UTC
Hi all,
Three of us are flying into Ayers Rock Airport Dec 19 and flying out on the 21st (Wed-Fri). I am looking for a 2-night camping tour that will take us to Ayers Rock and the Olgas, then return us to the airport.

Is there such a service? It should include AR sunrise and sunset, base walk (partial is OK) at AR, cultural center, and Olgas walk.

Or is it better to stay at the Lost Camel and hire a car and do the touring on your own?

Thanks for any help and info.

In my opinion there is no need for a 'guided tour'.
You could easily - and in your own pace - do it on your own.
Best and most flexible transport option is a rental car.
There is also a shuttle bus between Yulara, Ayers Rock and the Olga's (www.uluruexpress.com.au).
You need a ticket for the park (AUD 25,- per person for 3 consecutive days)
Be aware: it can be VERY hot in December !!

happy travels
Jaap

I always suggest to people that hiring a car is the way tp go. It's very easy to drive yourself to both Uluru and Olga's.
One road leads to everything.
The National Park opens just before sunrise. This is about 15 minute drive from the village.
You can do the sunrise, then you could book the Aboriginal tour/walk around the rock, or part of it, this is great, After this you can head off to the Olgas and do a walk there. There is a free tour that the National Parks guys do, this leaves from where they climb ( those that don't read the signs climb) the rock, there is a notice board there, I think it's about 10am each morning, this is for about 2 hours, great really great,
From here you can head back to the village, stopping at the Culture centre along the way.
Then go out and do the sunrise the next morning, then the culture centre that day.
The airport is a little way from the village where you stay.
Pick up the hire car from the airport, as then you can drive back when you are leaving.Book in advance, as this can be very busy at peak seasons, well most of the time.
When you get the car, they will have maps etc.
One thing that I think is great is the Sounds of Silence dinner...do that one night:)
You are not allowed to camp in the National Park, this closes each night after the sunset...plenty of time to get out!!!:)
Google Ulluru's information site.

Have a great time in one of my favourite places in Aus.

Having done this via a 4WD tour last year, I wish I'd had the advice of the two posters above and done the trip by myself via rental vehicle. It would have been very easy and a lot more fun. The advice you're getting above is excellent.

hi there
if you dont fancy doing it on your own there is a tour i can reccommend to you! im not usually i big fan of tours but this one was really good fun, you carnt find out about it anywhere just by word of mouth. its called the 'mulgas tour' and we booked it through the hostel we stayed at called annies place in alice. it casts $250 plus your park entrance fee but it includes all your meals and transport for the 3d and 2n and you will also visit kings canyon aswell.
hope that was some help, happy travels :)

yes, reading those replies you get is great! My husband and I did Australia by hiring a car and was great but, for the $ ryu07 is mentioning and including the King Canyon that would be excellent!
