Crete Island Travel Forum

We are planning to spend about two weeks in Crete in May or June. My friends who have visited the Island in April said that it was too cold to swim at that time. I am wondering we can swim in the sea around May (I guess June is definitely possible.) One thing is that I am not a big fan of polar bear swimming and really hates swimming in the cold water. What will be the water temperature around the middle or end of May?

Another thing is about accommodation. We want to stay in a studio with a kitchenette and swimming pool private or common use around Chania area. Where can we start our searching? Any good internet website for reservation?

THE BEST PERIOD IS JUNE.THE WATER IS BETTER THAN IN MAY.

We visit Greee every May and always swim in the sea. It is a very personal thing, depending what you call warm? Crete is warmer than much of Greece.

Personally, I would suggest June if you really don't like cold water, however consider that Creta and in particular the South Westerns regions are warmer than rest of Greece.

Think that the owner of our house in Paleochora (I spent 15 days in august 2006 and it was too hot...45°C in the day, 37°C in the night), told us that when Winter is not too much cold, they start going to the seaside at the end of February!!!
But only in this part of the island!!

I suggest you June, temperature shoul be not so hot as in August, but water will surely be quite warm.
I also suggest you to visit Matala, Chania, Balos lagoon (the best beach in the mediterraneo!!), Elafonissi, Paleochora and its surrounding!!
