Vanuatu A day in Port Vila
Posted: Mon November 19, 2007 02:30 AM UTC
We are visiting Vila on a P&O Cruise and am interested to know what we should do while we are there. I'm not interested in any of the organised tours from the ship as sitting in a coach for the day doesn't do it for me. Any advice from previous cruisers would be appreciated.

This may be late but you can visit historical/heritage museum on the hill in Vila. There is also a so so market in the village I recommend having a look at the small outrigger canoes that the natives carve. Also find yourself a Kava bar and indulge in a half shell before going back to your cruise. Enjoy the ride.

Hi there Linda

As travmad said there is a big market place right next to where P&O drops you off on the mainland. Has absolutely gorgeous little knick knacks there that are reasonably priced.

I also did a short tour to one of the local tribal villages which I found really interesting. The only travelling that was done was to the village (20mins or so) where we ended up spending a couple of hours.

There are also places to stop and have lunch which I enjoyed because it was different food to that on the ship (even though they have the largest variety!).

I dont know whether you will be purchasing alcohol duty free or not, but just to let you know that you can get alcohol extremely cheap in Port Vila.
