| Osaka | A day in Osaka.... Posted: Sun November 18, 2007 08:36 PM UTC
Hello all!
We have a very long layover in Osaka 7:30a.m to 10:00p.m on a Saturday in Feruary. Any recommendations on how to spend the day would be appreciated. Also, what kind of visa do we need to leave the airport then re-enter for the day? Can we obtain the visa we need at arrival to the airport? Thanks in advance! |

Kyoto is a great suggestion for a layover. It's not far from Osaka...will maybe take you 30-45 mins from the airport by train. You can take the city bus around (excellent English bus guide map from the bus station right outside JR Kyoto Station) or the subway. Be sure to visit Gion, Kiyomizu Temple, and Kinkakuji Temple.
If you don't want to go to Kyoto and want to stay in Osaka, go to Shinsaibashi/Namba if you want to shop and eat. You could also go to Spa World and spend a few hrs there soaking in the different baths. They have some outdoor baths so February would be a fun time to go. Or you could go to Kobe - a port city 20 mins from Osaka. Very international. Site of the Great Hanshin Earthquake so you can view a memorial near the port area. Great shopping and eating. Get off at JR Sannomiya Station.
