Grand Cayman Rental Car & Bus
Posted: Sat November 17, 2007 03:19 PM UTC
We're staying at the east end for a month, in Feb. Near Morrits.

Any suggestions vis a vis transportation? Bus sounds tempting to augment a small car but we're wondering if that makes sense. How far to the bus from the airport etc and how to navigate all that, or is a car the only logical way. When guests come we'll have 6 folks with us and a tiny car won't cut it, but a big car for a month seems silly.

Guests on a bus sounds downright nasty! But then again there is the concept of flexibility and ingenuity!

The east end on GC is pretty sparse as far as stores & restaurants go. You'll probably find it inconvenient to walk. If I remember correctly, pre-Ivan the nearest grocery store was about 10-15 minutes drive away from Morritts. I don't know about the bus schedule. If it was me, I'd suck it up and rent a car. Maybe just exchange your small car for a larger car during the time that your guests are visiting? I'm sure the rental agency would be able to accommodate you. Good luck!

To explore the isle and get from/to the airport IMO it's more economical to rent a car for your whole stay or just the days needed. Parking is not a issue in GCM, most places like hotels and dining offer free parking. The cons is driving on the leftside if your not use to it, your local car insurance and credit card provider might not offer insurance protection in Grand Cayman, which would require you to take out the agency CDW.
