| Victoria | BEST Fish'n'Chip restaurant? Posted: Fri November 16, 2007 03:51 AM UTC
What's your favorite fish and chip restaurant in Victoria? I see that Barb's Fish n Chips is the #1 while in season (March - Oct). We'd like to go find a great traditional fish'n'chip shop this weekend (the kind where they wrap it up in newspaper).
Thanks! |

We have tried so many and our favorite is around the block, Salty's Fish and Chips, 2950 Douglas Road. Really delicious, wrapped in paper and with all the vinegar and other condiments you might like.

Red Fish Blue Fish on wharf level of the Inner Harbour (down from where Broughton meets Wharf street) was definitely the best fish and chips I'd tried in the city. However, it's take-out only. I had some really good fish from the place in the strip mall near Shelbourne and Feltham, but the chips were quite soggy.

We found the BEST fish n chips in Sidney. I think it's called "Fish on 5th". It's such a unique restaurant and was packed full of people. (good sign) We're definately going to try out the other places you've mentioned though.
Thanks!

Barb's is great..but yeah it's seasonal...I think that Haultain F & C's and Fairfield F & C's are both awesome! Both are wrapped in newspaper and very hot and crunchy!!

Haultain F&C's were good and their coleslaw was excellent!

I am fond of the Willows' (not sure where the apostrophe should go or even if one is needed) Galley on Estevan just up from Beach Drive near Willows Beach. Good fish and chips, a very decent burger and my personal favourite the popcorn shrimp dinner. And frozen yogurt/ice cream in the summer. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and only open from 11:00 to 6:45 pm (and they may close earlier if they run out of ingredients). And yes they do the traditional wrap in newspaper and also have a take out window. Very limited seating inside (maybe 4 stools?).
I also had good chips from the place on Fairfield Road (near Moss Street) - not sure what it's called. I never had fish there. Susan
