| Warsaw | Airport Into Old Town Posted: Thu November 15, 2007 11:37 PM UTC
Any advice on how to get into Old Town from the airport? I have a layover in Warsaw for about 10 hours and figured I would venture into the city for a bit.
I'm assuming old town is where I should go explore during this time. Thanks |

you could take the 175 bus....its cheap....but since you have little time...take a cab.....about $15....take it not to the old town but to the point where nowy swiat meets krakowskie przedmiescie....they are the same street but change names at that point......walk from there into the old town....this section is filled with big ,great churches and palaces....then you will get to castle square which is wonderful and is the beginning of the old town...then there is the part ot town on the far side of the old town, not the river side , that has alot of nice palaces etc...if you are lucky it will be at night as its all nicely illuminated

I would take bus 175 & spend some time in the city centre. The old town is ok but the city centre of Warsaw is really buzzing these days with plenty of shops/markets to keep you occupied for a few hours. Depending on the weather you may prefer a trip to the Zoo which at approx 1 GBP OR 2 USD is great value. If you fancy this trip a taxi would be your best bet from central station ( where bus 175 drops you off ) as the trams can be confusing.

If I venture around either old town or city center how far away is the warsaw ghetto area? Is it double if I only have a short time?

the warsaw ghetto is a short walk from the old town areas....u might save alot oftime comming back from there by taking the tram or public transpo....but walk there from the old town....some nice palaces on the way but the ghetto area was leveled during the war so just alot of commie type buildings there now...if you consult a travel book you will optimize your time there
