| São Paulo | Buses from Sao Paulo airport to Rio de Janeiro Posted: Thu November 15, 2007 10:45 PM UTC
Hi,
We're arriving in Sao Paulo on Thursday 31st January 2008 at 9.10pm and need to get to Rio for the carnaval. Are there any bus services that go directly from Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport to Rio de Janeiro and do buses run this late? I can't seem to find any buses or websites that can tell me. Please help!!! |

You will probably have to go to Rodoviario Tieté. However, being this close to Carnaval, you might have some problems getting a bus. Busses from Tieté to Rodoviario Novo Rio run every 15 minutes or so, all night long. You might however consider buying a ticket from Guarulhos to Tom Jobim (Rio). With gol, if you book now, the price is R$ 170, a nice bus is R$ 70, not including taxi to Tieté etc. (www.voegol.com.br).

I don't think there are buses to Rio from Guarulhos. However, it is easy to take a shuttle bus to the metro station and, from there, to Tiete Terminal (the metro is integrated with the bus terminal). If you plan to take a taxi, then you should just take a plane (the ride is expensive).
The buses run through out the night. It is better to take a later bus in order to get in Rio when it already light (I usually take the 1am bus). You can buy online from Itapemirim (www.itapemirim.com.br) or 1001 (www.viacao1001.com.br). Look for a small american or english flag for the english version of the sites. Anyway you choose, you should book as soon as possible, as the plane tickets will get much more expensive and the bus tickets may sell out.
