Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Gibraltar Tax on your income when working in Gib but living in Spain
Posted: Thu November 15, 2007 03:02 AM UTC
Hi,

I've been doing searches on the net and trying to find advice on some stuff.
I came across someone saying if you work in Gibraltar but live in Spain, you then have to pay Spanish tax on your income instead of the Gibraltar tax. Is this true? Or can/do you still have the Gib tax on your income?

Also, does anyone know the Spanish tax rates?

Thanks

Hello

If you work in Gibraltar, you will have to pay tax and NI contributions to the Gibraltar Government.

If you also live in Spain, there are tax implications here too. The Spanish Government's 'Hacienda'... Income Tax collectors requires Spanish residents to make a declaration of their income, even if tax is being paid elsewhere.

You may find this of interest: http://www.gibraltarnewsonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1187

There is a very comprehensive explanation, along with relevant links to Spanish forms which are required to be submitted, and which explains what you are asking about more fully, on that page.

Hope that helps!

Saludos! :)

you pay tax only where you work (can only be taxed at source once, under EU law).

you can fill in a spanish tax form if you want but nobody does, and the tax office in San Roque understands this, so dont worry.

tax in Gib is currently around 20% up to 25,000 GBP and 30% up to 50,000 GBP i think,

Spanish tax is alot less , it depends on what you are employed as as well as your income.
