My wife and I will be traveling to Santiago, Chile on March 18, 2008. We will be arriving at SCL(Santiago International Airport) at 5:30AM on March 18. We are traveling with 2 other couples. Does anyone know about a bus to get to the port in Valparaiso. We are boarding a Princess cruiseship.

I have no personal knowledge of such things, but the airport's website lists a number of bus companies. At least one - www.transvip.cl - appears to be in the business of transferring people as needed (as opposed to scheduled buses)...which is, I assume, what you will need for the 60+ mile trip out to Valparaiso...the transvip site has English, although their translations are a bit comical, still, you should be able to send them an email...good luck!

Don't know if there is a direct connection to Valparaiso.
Otherwise catch one of the buses (CentroPuerto or Turbus) to Pajaritos Metro Station. From there long distance buses to Valparaiso leave very frequently. We also had one of these buses for a day trip from Santiago to Valparaiso. See for more info: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/890/9/182bf0/ happy travels jaap

I am not sure about direct buses from the airport, but generally the buses in Chile are excellent and you can turn up and book a good bus in the main bus station. Buses to Valpariso and Vine del Mar are frequent and good quality so I would not be too concerned.
I took bus from Santiago-Valpariso 6 years ago and even then the bus station we pretty clean and safe and the booking system was advanced.

LAN runs a bus from Santiago airport to Viña del Mar where it is easy to get a taxi to Valparaiso or you can take the Metrotren, suburban railway, to Valparaiso.

I have been doing a lot of research on this because our ship arrives in Valparaiso on Feb. 25, 2008. There is a US company called Portcompass that runs tours to and from Santiago to Valparaiso for a very reasonable price. Check out www.portcompass.com. We are going to use them.
