Can anyone tell me if it is possible to rent a car at the air port with a Visa Debit card?
We do not use credit cards,as we do not like to get into debt.

I didn't have any problems using a Visa Debit for car hire in Fuerteventura - I would guess that it's the same throughout Spain?

Most of the car hire companies allow you to book online and you can usually use a debit card here - I think the request for a credit card is to verify address which they can also do with the Visa Debit.

cant see why not if your card carries the international Maestro or Visa sign - if you have problems there will be a hole in the wall somewhere in the airport - withdraw the cash & hand that over - nobody can say much to that

Most car hire operators will ask for a Credit Card NOT a Debit Card. I believe it is so they can make automatic additional charges if necessary once the car is returned and the user has failed to declare some problem. However I am sure it is possible to rent a car with someone on the strength of some Guarantee or on a personal verification with the rental company.

Although that it is true that many online booking facilities allow payments per debitcard, fact is that most car hire companies request to be paid by a valid credit card which must be issued on the name of the driver in most cases.

One of the reasons, as commented before, is that they can make automatic additional charges if necessary and another important reason is that the companies try to avoid that their staff needs to handle or keep a lot of cash at the counters. You will find that most companies do not accept cash payments, although some of the major online car rental brokers, like www.hispacar.com might be able to help you out and redirect you to one of the few car hire companies at malaga airport wo do allow debit cards or cash paments.
