| Göteborg | Christmas market visit Posted: Tue November 13, 2007 08:11 AM UTC
I'm traveling to Goteborg on 05-12-07 (December) arriving at the city airport at 21:00 (9:00 PM) and will be staying at the Ibis hotel (the boat) for two nights, then taking the train to Oslo on 07-12-07 in the morning (7:00) (7 AM).
My questions are: What is the easiest way to get to the Christmas market at Lisberg? (I understand you take the #5 tram from downtown--is that correct?). Also, can anyone recommend what to do in a single day in Goteborg--apparently browsing the streets and visiting the natural history museum are two things to do--but also I understand there are some interesting cafes and architectural areas. Lastly, how difficult (and safe) is it to walk to the Ibis from the train station late at night in the winter in Goteborg--and if not safe, how do I get there--a taxi? a bus? a tram? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Gary |

I've taken the tram #5 från Hisingen (outside of the city center) and it does stop at Liseberg. According to the travel planner of Väst Trafik (www.vasttrafik.se) you walk from your hotel to Brunnsparken and from there you take the tram 5 (and back).
I wouldn't be worried about safety from the Central station to the hotel as in being mugged or robbed, however if you're traveling with heavy baggage it might be a challenge if the sidewalks are icy (it's been snowing up here but I don't know how it is down there). According to the travel planner, the bus 59 should take you to the street called Gullbergs Strandgata where the hotel is. Should you take that bus, get off at the stop called Falutorget. Walking from the Central station is about 700m. A place to go might be the garden Trädgårdsföreningen. Remember that you need to buy your tram/bus tickets before you get on and that it's not possible to buy them from the bus/tram driver anymore. Hope this helps while the VT'ers that live down there answer.

Sorry, I meant from your hotel to the train station late at night, but the tips still apply.
