I am planning to travel to Baja Mexico in Feb 2004 and am hoping to join an 8day kayak/camping trip from Loreto. I was planning on going with Tofino expeditions, I was wondering if anyone can recommend them or another company.
A few years ago an acquaintance of mine who was working in Santa Rosalia went kayaking. I think she did it on her own ... and almost died when her kayak got swept away. Thank goodness it was only temporarily!
Have you tried going to Google and searching for: "baja california" kayaking
The University of Calgary has excellent kayaking tours; I have taken a couple of classes from them and they were great. Check out www.kin.ucalgary.ca/Campusrec/outdoors/seakayak.asp; scroll down to "warm water tours".
I have searched the internet and come up with many outfitters, but I was looking for a personal recommendation.
After hearing about your friend's experience, makes me even more certain that I'm doing the right thing by choosing to kayak with an experienced guide rather than on my own! thanks for the reply!
Agreed. In her case, I think she was just absent minded but being out there alone seems not very prudent to me. I wish I had some contacts there for you, but unfortunately I don't. One idea might be to find some hotels in Loreto and write/call them. Surely they would know where to go in Baja.
