Hello everyone... Would anyone know if there is some type of event on the 24th of December in the town where they first wrote and sang the hymn "Silent Night"? I know the actual church was destroyed in a flood but I believe they built the town and a chapel a few miles away... Does anyone know the best way to get there from Salzburg?? Any "must see" things for a 1 day trip to Salzburg?? Any information would be greatly appreciated..

Hi,
the "Silent Night Church" is still there and in operation, in the small village of OBERNDORF BEI SALZBURG. You can reach Oberndorf with Line S1 from Salzburgs main station in 25 minutes. There are several mass services and a midnight mass as well, where the famous song is performed. Have a look at the HP of the "Silent Night Society", where you can find some infos. In Salzburg you should take a walk in the old town, stroll through the old "Getreidegasse", see Mozarts house there, probably walk or ride up to the fortress and have coffee and cake at famous "Cafe Bazar" or "Cafe Glockenspiel" Have a nice trip!
