In the United States, there are several embassies - you must use the one indicated for the state in which you live. For me it was San Francisco; I donwloaded the form on line, got the photos taken, sent it to them with my passport, the photos, and a cashier's check for the amount due and enclosed a stamped addressed USPS express mail envelope. I don't recall whether I sent it to them via FedEx or USPS express mail. At any rate ithe passport with the attached visa arrived back to me in 6 days total time elapsed. Beats standing in line!

I presume you mean how and where to get an Indian visa in the UK, as that seems to be where you live. Someone only recently posted information instead of a question on precisely this subject, so if it didn't get deleted because of not being a question, you could look in the India forum. They were talking about what I think was a visa surgery, like this http://www.hcilondon.net/visa/visa-surgeries.html and I believe it may even have been in Birmingham.
Of course if you happen to be passing through another country before going to India you could try applying at the Indian embassy there, but it is often more difficult/expensive to get a visa in a country you don't live in, and there is no guarantee that it would be much easier/faster than in the UK.

if your country of residence is UK, then you can apply via post. all the details are on the indian emabassy website, else you can go there in the morning and you should get it on the day. they only give limited number ( i think 1000). or you can always use visa agencies. It is not at all dificult!
