Greetings:
In the near future, my wife and I will be flying to Jeddah to buy some much needed groceries. We were flying to Riyadh but we have been told that flying on Saudi Airlines to Jeddah is more reliable than flying on the new airline Nas to Riyadh.
We live in Saudi Arabia but in the Eastern Province and we have never visited or stayed in Jeddah. We are complete newbies to Jeddah therefore can anyone recommend a cheap but nice hotel in Jeddah? We are just looking for a room with a bed and a bathroom. Every city usually has at least one cheap, well managed and clean hotel and we would like to stay in a hotel like that. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I stayed in a furnished apartment near Andalus Street, Al Ruwais District for three weeks sometime last year. The room was booked for SR 100 per night but at the middle of my stay they charged twice as much since the pilgrim season was just around the corner.

Prices vary from location. You need to decide where exactly in Jeddah you intend to stay.
