I am going to stay in Nuevo Vallarta, can I take a local (not airport) taxi from the airport? or do i have to take the bus to stay away from the $25 taxis.
What is safest and cheap.

ps can I also grab a bus from Nuevo vallarta to Bucerias?

If you are traveling lite (a back pack, something you can maneuver easily) I would suggest, exiting the airport by the east door, facing the highway (this would be the narrow end of the airport terminal). Walk to the curb and take any city bus (blue and white, blue and green, white with multi colored stripes) for about 5 pesos maybe less. The bus will be going south, yes away from Nuevo. Try to stay in the front by the driver and tell him when you get on "Wal-mart." If you can't stay by the driver, ask any passenger where to get off for Walmart. Walmart is at a large intersection with the large cruise ship marina on your right, Walmart/Sam's Club parking lot on your left, as seen from the bus. Get off and cross the highway at the light. Turn left or back toward the airport, you will see fronting the parking lot, toward the north end a bus stop with shelters. Go there. Watch for a Medina Transportes Linea, MTL bus, grey in color. Watch for the one that says Nuevo Vallarta on the top above the windshield. Almost all the buses leaving this bus stop will go past Nuevo Vallarta. You will want one that takes you into Nuevo Vallarta...so be sure you get one that has Nuevo Vallarta in the destination window above the windshield. Should be about 12 pesos or less. These buses are perfectly safe and cheap.

From Nuevo to Bucerias, you will probably need to take the same MLT bus from Nuevo to the highway (not sure of cost), get off, cross the highway and catch any bus going by that says Bucerias 5 pesos, probably about.

You can walk over the pedesterian walk from the air terminal and get a "yellow and white" cab at a better rate or catch the silver ATM bus marked Nuevo Vallarta.You can also catch a ATM bus from N.V. To Bucerias, but it is a real trick.
