| Bari | All About Bari Posted: Fri November 9, 2007 04:29 AM UTC
Hi,
I will be spending 2 nights in Bari in February. 1) Do you know of any centrally located hostel / room that doesnt cost too much for one person? 2) What are the must-sees in Bari? 3) Are there any possible half-day trips out of Bari? I read about Matera, how far is that and how much would it cost? 4) There doesnt seem to be alot of information on the Internet about Bari, any good sites to recommend? Thanks in advance. |

Hi.
1) I don't know any centrally located hostel or b&b. A good b&b is 'VILLA VALERIA' http://www.villa-valeria.it , but it is not in the centre. Another b&b is 'Residenza Sveva' http://www.residenzasveva.it It is in the centre. 2) As example: Saint Nicholas Church, The Svevo Castle, Russian church, A querter named "umbertino" between "Corso Cavour" and "Lungomare Nazario Sauro". Some pictures of Bari on these sites: http://www.paesionline.it/bari/foto_immagini_bari.asp or http://www.bennyweb.it/Bari/Foto_Galleria.htm 3) Yes it' possible by train you can go to Ruvo, andria, trani (with trenitalia railway company) or barletta (with trenitalia railway company) or matera (with another railway company). The cost of a ticket train is not expansive...less than 10 euros. http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html (trani barletta) http://ferrovienordbarese.it/index.php?s=10&p= http://ferrovienordbarese.it/download.php?sezione= http://www.fal-srl.it/quadriorari2003/treni.htm (timetable bari-matera-bari) If you'll go to andria don't miss to visit an historical confetti shop: 'Mucci' http://www.muccigiovanni.it/ and don't miss to visit "Castel del monte" An important federician Castle http://www.sitiunesco.it/index.phtml?id=636 4) Yes there are a lot of infos on internet. some sites: http://www.pugliaturismo.com/aptbari/default_e.htm http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g187874-Act http://www.italiantourism.com/puglia.html http://www.2night.it/v2/bari/index.html (nitghlife in bari) http://www.pugliadirect.com/ I hope my infos can help you to organize your journey in puglia. Ciao. :) P.S. If you can, is better to spent your three days in andria, trani, ruvo and barletta. They are more beautiful of bari. Let me kwow if you desire to have more infos on these cities.

Lecce is a short train trip from Bari and it is a very beautiful and relaxed place. I have heard it is a good idea to be cautious about going into the old quarter in Bari - I don't know if this is try or not.

Yes Lecce is another beautiful city.
The old city (expecially the isolated area) may be a little dangerous, like other cities in the world, if you take with you bags or jewels.
