Maastricht Restaurant help

We will be there tomorrow for one night.

We would like a fun place/casual but not too expensive. Any ethnic cuisine is interesting to us.

We are staying at the Botel and will be wandering toward that main square area where all those restaurants are too. We are willing to walk across the river of course for the right place. Thanks bunches.

Ethnic as in typical Dutch or rather not? You'll find so many restaurants around and in between Vrijthof and Onze Lieve Vrouweplein that you'll be spoiled for choice. Half the fun is walking around and reading the menus, sniffing the atmosphere and making a choice. It's not that much walking you need to do.

http://www.vvvmaastricht.nl/ is the tourist information website. Unfortunately, the English version is not up yet.
But if you click Eten en Drinken from the menu, you'll find various city quarters in a bar underneath the main menu. Click Rondom Vrijthof or Rondom OLV Plein.
Have fun!

Thanks. We both have been there at seperate times. But we never had a proper meal. There are alot of choices, too many and we just don't have the time, we get there late. We will be fine on our own of course, just thought there was a magic place that we may need to go to:)

Personally I think Maastricht is magic anyway :-)
But for me it's Toine Hermsen. Though you need advance reservations and a bag of money. He's has a Michelin star.

Try this link with restaurants and map:

Here's the down town Top 10:

Looking at your wishes I should say you have a look at:
Brasserie Appart at Achter de Molens 15; Fusion kitchen and Euro 27 for a 3-course meal.

Good morning PJ! Thinking 'IENS' I feel a tip coming on... did you know I was once offered the job to be the editor of the Netherlands guide? I think it was about 7 years ago, or so. I declined, it was too little money for too much work. They've grown since then. Nice people, they had a fun office in Amsterdam! I still write at least 10 reviews for them every year. That's rewarded by a free guide of my choice.

Well, one guide costs as much as a main course in a simple restaurant, so...

My wife and I stayed Maastricht for a few days in February with no knowledge of the area and I must agree that there is no reason to make plans, just wander around and find a place you like.

I wish I was going back - what a great city!!

Well, if your curious. We ended up eating at an Irish put. We had Shephards pie, it tasted just like I make mine. How odd. So, needless to say it was not that exciting:) Can't wait to go back when we have more time. Thanks for the tips.
