Pre-visit meds for Northern Thailand Posted: Wed November 7, 2007 02:12 AM UTC
Are the recommended vaccinations for travel to this area different from down south? Also: has anyone traveled over the border to Myanmar here since the "troubles" a few weeks back?

Yes, I remember from my trip a few years ago there was a recommendation of anti-malarial prophylaxis if spending any time around the immediate country border area, i.e. Golden Triangle (as we were only going to be there for a day, we decided to go without and use plenty of repellant but that was our personal decision).
As with any question of this nature, I highly recommend you seek the advice of a healthcare professional - malaria is a killer.
Enjoy your trip!

The one thing you can NOT immunize youself against is Denque Fever.
It is currently ALL over S.E. Asia.
I suggest the common safeguards: DEET, long-sleeves, mosquito nets if you are sleeping outside or without screens.
note: I'm speaking from experiencing, because I caught Dengue, in September, in the city of Chiang Mai.

Thanks Eastern Trekker:
Just wondering: when did you visit Myanmar? Did you have a visa?
