Syria Visa for Australians

Salam. Can anyone tell me if Australians need a Visa to enter Syria? I'm guessing "yes" is the answer.

Thanks for any help

The answer is not only Yes, but you can't get it at the border. You must apply at a Syrian consulate. It's a one day turn-around though as I recall.

Yes, u need a Visa, but unofficially u may be able to get it at the border. I was travelling for a while in Turkey & didn't know when I would be going to Syria, so I took a punt on what the LP had written.
Basically at the Turk/Syrian border I got out of the public van I was travelling in along with a Korean guy.
The bus driver wanted to get going so he moved things along, although he did try & hit a Syrian tourist official who wanted me to fill in a questionaire. Sat around in the big mans office for about 20 minutes, then the deal was done. we were quickier than some of the others on the minivan. Just have some Syrian money, Visa was for about 15 days with a day or to leeway. This was in late 2005.
I would say the same goes for the Lebanon/Syrian border - I bought mt Lebanese Visa there too.
Syria is a great choice, really loved my time there - incredible people too & not too many tourists.

Depending on how you plan to arrive in the Middle East but I believe you can fly into Beirut, pick up a Lebonese visa at the airport and get your Syrian visa on crossing into Syria. I think this is the only exception to the rule, though Id double check that!
