Puerto Madryn Peninsula Valdes tours or tour guides
Posted: Tue November 6, 2007 05:39 PM UTC
Four of us will be in Puerto Madryn Feb. 13. We'd like to see as much of the Peninsula Valdes as possible on that day, including Punto Norte and the penguins at Estancia San Lorenzo. Does anyone know of a tour company or a person who might offer tours to that area? We've found day tours, but none go to the destinations we mentioned. The guide books are confusing.
Thanks.

Puerto Madryn Re: Peninsula Valdes tours or tour guides

My wife, son, and I just came back there a few weeks ago. We just rented a car for the three days we were in the area. The company we dealt with was very professional, they even met us at the bus station in Trelew at 6:00 am to deliver the car to us (we took an overnight bus from Bariloche). With our own car we could stop and go at our own pace. I don't think having a guide is a very big advantage, there are only a few roads in the whole peninsula so it's very hard to get lost and it's just a matter of going and observing the sea mammals. I'm in the process of putting together my VT pages from this trip. If there is anything specific you'd like to ask, email me and I'll answer with whatever experience we had.

Just a couple of questions about Peninsula Valdes:
- what company did you rent your car ?
- what kind of car did you have: 4 WD or .... ?
- where did you stay ?

Thanks a lot

At Puerto Piramides we stayed at Cabanas en el Mar- best value for price, although things were a little 'rustic'. We also stayed 1 night at Aguas Mansas in Pto. Madryn which was also very basic but at least was in a quiet part of town.

We rented from Sigma rentacar in Puerto Madryn and had a 4 dr sedan. 4WD wasn't necessary anywhere we went almost everythng is flat and even gravel roads were in good condition for gravel roads.

Perhaps the agency or the sites I pointed out in message at http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-385624-1-1-Travel-0-0-Puerto_Madryn-discussion.html may help.

They arranged an special tour for me, but I think my driver does not speaks English (you may reach Arturo in miamigoturista@yahoo.com.ar) but may be the agency may help to find an English Spoken driver. Or you may rent a car.

Puerto Madryn Rent a car!
Posted: Sun November 11, 2007 05:57 PM UTC
We are still in Argentina and visited Peninsula Valdes almost two weeks ago.

I would also strongly recommend to rent a car. We rented our car with Avis. We made reservations online and they awaited us at the airport in Trelew. We drove south to the pinguin colony at Punto Tombo and then went north and stayed in Puerto Piramides for a few days, also at Cabanas en el Mar (looking down the street from our cabana we saw the whales jump in the bay! Indeed basic, but fine).

From Puerto Piramides we spent one day driving around the peninsula (Punta Norte, Caleta Valdes, Punta Delgado). Especially around Punta Delgado we saw lots of terrestrial animals (guanacos, maras and nandus), at Punta Norte we were lucky to see a pot of orcas swimming along the coast! Beautiful with all the wildlife around!

Enjoy!
