Garmisch-Partenkirchen Travel Forum

I will be coming from the Kaiserlautern area and would like to stay at Garmisch during Christmas. I understand I am late in the game with reservations. I need advice on a hotel which is near bars and restaraunts, close to the town. I also need tips on maybe a one day excursion for skiing or sledding. Thank you. Anything you have is appreciated.

I have stayed at Hotel Bavaria which is about a 10 minute walk from the train station, they have a website so google it and have a look, I can recommend it. There are numerous Hotels in Garmisch but as you surmised, many will be full. You will be given a visitors pass at any hotel you stay at and this entitles you to free town buses, and it is easy to walk around anyway.
The Managers there speaks excellent English if you don,t speak German. It is a family run Hotel and not very big but the rooms are lovely and breakfast is included.

The GP Tourismus website is good for hotel lists but you need to contact them direct. Try Hotel Reservation Service as a booking facility. It gives locations and distances from the Rail Station. Don't worry too much about distances from bars and restaurants you'll soon find your way around. Hausberg is the area to haed for to go skiing or sledding. The sledding is at night under floodlights.
