| Skopje | To Skopje from Athens Posted: Tue November 6, 2007 10:20 AM UTC
Hi friends.
I need help here.. I'm flying into Athens and would like to go to Skopje for a few days meeting. This would be my first time. Which way is the best to travel to Skopje and how much? Too much info on the net and I would rather have a local to give me best info :) Oh, besides Greece, where else (international airport) can I reach Skopje nearer. I'm coming from Malaysia. |

1) Visa.. So make sure, your trip won't end in Gevgelija (border)!
2) The topic "how to calculate train ticket from Lapovo(SRB) to Unterpfaffenhofen-Germering (DE) via Radjin (NKorea)" and alike became a FAQ... Here is how to solve it: a) use www.jizdenka.cz b) switch to English c) switch to "international" e) select the cities (and look at the routing). In your case there is only one routing and the "regular" international so-called TCV price is 49.60 Euro (Athine - to - Skopje). This is not what you pay, unless you are too rich. This is the "most expensive" price offered to "non-contract coutries". So if you buy that ticket in, say, Danemark or Czech Republic you will pay that price. OnBalkans there is a Uniform Balkan Tariff which is roughly the half of that. So you probably will pay about 25-30 Euro at worst. Not sure about the Greek part, I know it has good discount, but I know, (ex-) YU has 50% or more off the TCV (except some cases with Slovenia, but sometimes Slovenia is 70% off, so it depends). The closest international airport to Skopje is Skopje. :-) And of course Ohrid. And Beograd. and Sofia. And Thessaloniki. and Tirana. Beograd is probably the most useful because there are plenty of Yugoslavs in Australia and somehow they want to fly home once in a while - without get broke. You may find, that lookig at www.jat.com and looking for their GSA in Malaysia, they may offer you a very good deal to Beograd. From there the train is about 20 Euro and takes shorter time.

There is a International Airport in Skopje too.
Here is a link: http://skp.airports.com.mk/default.aspx?ItemID=345 There is absolutely no need to come to Greece first if Skopje is your main destination. Skopje has very good links with Viena, Zurich, Rome, Dusseldorf, Amsterdam (direct flights operated by MAT- Macedonian National Airtransport). So since you are coming far away from Asia, please check the connections through aforementioned major airports.
