| Bonn | Königswinter/ Stieldorf Posted: Mon November 5, 2007 03:08 AM UTC
Can someone here enlighten me about 'Königswinter/ Stieldorf' area in Rhein side of Bonn?
Is it a preferable area to live? What I mean: does the area provide a convenient facility for grocery shopping, safety wise, and convenient to move around the Bonn? From my knowledge so far, they have bus Line. 537 that goes all the way from Stieldorf to Bonn Hauptbahnhof. Any insights or comments are welcomed. Thanks. |

hehe, I live in Sankt Augustin, about 3 miles away from Stieldorf. Stieldorf is a much sought-after village in the foothills of the Siebengebirge -- one level up from the Rhine valley. Very pretty setting, some parts are enjoying stunning views into the Rhine valley and the Westerwald hills. It is a rural suburb of Bonn, so to speak, changing from a farming community into an affluent place to live. Basic supplies will be available but probably not too much choice. The bus connection is okay, but it only takes 15 minutes to reach Bonn by car. If you do NOT have a car and are thinking about moving there, do visit it first and check if the bus is okay for your purposes.
I hear there's an excellent Italian restaurant in the village -- people even come up from Bonn for eating there! In case of further questions, feel free to ask! Win

hehehe. Win! =)
If I really move there, we can become close-by neighbor and hang out together. =P (just joking) Yea, I know what you mean. I came across this house that is just so comfortable-looking for me (well, at least from the picture provided by the landlord). It is something that I am looking for, cozy, not too near the city, hence not crowded and probably not noisy. However, despite of the above, I would also need a good transportation link to Bonn (so it is convenient for me to travel to work hehe). For my initial stay, I don’t think I will buy a car, and just thinking of settle down in there and be familiar with the system there. =P. He just remarked that a good bus connection to Bonn (which is line 537 and 512). I guess it is just a couple min walk from the bus stop. But well, I couldn’t seem to find any timetable and route info for 512. Line 537 seems fine because I can change to another bus at Bonn Hauptbahnhof which will take me to my working place… Huh… It seems pretty hard to find a suitable place to stay in Bonn =) Well, let’s see…

well why not? ;) I will soon move to my own house in Remagen though, so it's gonna be a bit further afield :) You are definitely welcome to join or VT bunch here in the Rhineland -- we meet up for daytrips and VT meetings quite often and are always happy to welcome new people. When will you start working and where exactly? If you are here for a longer period it might make sense to look for a small temporary place to get you started here and allow you to make your choice at a time when you have good local knowledge yourself. At any rate, it would be recommendable to come here first and take a look yourself.
In case you need more detailed information or links to property/rental sites you are welcome to email me.

PS: Residential areas in Germany are pretty quiet anyway and Bonn has a couple of nice parts of town which are almost rural suburbs. So if you make sure your place is not on a major road you will have little problems with noise and it will be cozy still. The bus from Stieldorf will be a bit inconvenient, especially if you have to change lines. I used to live in Brüser Berg (a place I would NOT recommend to you, same with Tannenbusch) and needed to go to Beuel for work -- it took forever. I'd try to find a place that would allow me to use the bike for work and shops. If that don't work, try to have good access to the tram network at least. Good places are Oberkassel and Oberdollendorf on the Beuel side (right bank). Beuel itself is also becoming ever more popular. Vilich-Müldorf and Sankt Augustin-Hangelar are both pretty nice and well connected through the 66 tram. If you like to be out of town and have great scencery, yet want a decent connection, Königswinter-town, Rhöndorf and Bad Honnef come to mind.

Well, then I should say a big Hi to a club over there.
I will start working in early of January next year; the area will be around the corner of Kennedyalle. As you can see, I am an internet-person, hehe, so it is will be a good catch if I can find the apt that supplies internet connection (hehe) as during my initial couple of months I will not be really familiar with the telecommunication access over there still + apt with all-inclusive package. Anywhere that is convenient to travel around and to my office will be ok already. I’ve come across another place in Dottendorf (saying that the transportation line will be 61,62,612,630). How about this area? Any advice? So far, I‘ve been looking around in rental agent e-rent.de, but not much choice but better than nothing eh. I’ve tried to look around in other websites as well, but have a bit difficulty to understand since they are in German and tried to contact some of landlords but no reply from them.. (heez). P.S RhineRoll, hope you have a pleasant day today eh.

Dottendorf is pretty good, just make sure to stay away from the main roads (traffic noise)
Have a look at this link, should open a PDF-document showing a map of Bonn with rental areas (and prices)... stay away from red areas -- in orange ones it is possible to find nice places with reasonable rates but also not so nice ones. all colours of green are good (but pricey) http://www.bonn.de/umwelt_gesundheit_planen_bauen_

PS: Don't worry about internet connection, at least not within the city limits of Bonn -- DSL is available everywhere through the telephone cable.

OK... Try copying this link into your browser... I used www.immobilienscout24.de and typed in 5 km from Kennedyallee and 1-2 room apartment... unfortunately no English text but you can look at the pics. Maybe, once you have the small window with the expose opened, you could use an automated translating engine like babelfish...Note that the rental price is the "Kaltmiete" which means it excludes utilities "Nebenkosten" -- about 30 % should be calculated for that on the top of the price mentioned. The rental price including the utilities is called "Warmmiete".

How about this one? A nice 1-room apartment in an excellent location, including a kitchenette -- have your employer do the contacting for you!

Ahh, it is so nice of you to extend the help to me, really appreciate it, really..
:-) Uhmm.. seem like I have problem to access the www.immobilienscout24.de links given you, but let me just drop you a message instead. Good to hear that Dottendorf is a pretty good area, but the rental price is quite pricey tho.. close to 700 eur.. hehe..

you should expect to pay from 350 - 500 EUR "Kalt" within the city limits of Bonn. In Sankt Augustin, where I live, a 2-room apartment costs about 400 EUR per month.
