| Andorra | End of November Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 10:41 PM UTC
I am planning to drive from Barcelona to Andorra next November 26. Would routes be fine? Or should I spect some problems with the snow or ice at that time?
I am seeing low temperatures now (from 10°C t 0°C at present) in Whether Channel, but average temperatures for november and december are missing there! |

This year is being unusually warm. By the end on Novemeber, snow in the Pyrenees is the norm, however, the road from Barcelona to Andorra is a very busy one and it's usually well kept and clean... unless you are driving under or just after a snow storm, of course. I would check the forecast a few days in advance (weather on this area may change very fast, don't trust so much the 10-15 day forecasts, and take the past statistics just as a guidance).

Ok, thanks. We would try to follow to Carcassone and then to the coast. Should we expect same route maintenance?

Don't know. So far, I've never drive around this part of France during winter months.
What I remember are small windy roads (even probably we choose these because these were more scenic, probably there are more direct routes). Stop at Foix, is a nice town. Carcassonne is worth to see, but too Disney-style to my taste, the reconstruction of the XIX century made it too like a fairy-tale town (IMHO). We liked Narbonne more than Carcassone, maybe because we stopped there just by chance, without so high expectations.

I agree about Carcassonne. But we liked Perpignan much more than Narbonne. But that's personal of course.

Yes it's so personal. Ir was too hot both times I went to Perpignan, so I guess this influenced my perception. Not a bad place indeed... Ceret is an interesting town as well, with small modern art museum, and a fantastic creperie in the central square (yes I know crepes are from Bretagne, but these were really good ;)) Unfortulately I did not write down its adress. From the coastal towns, even touristy, Colliure.
Ahhhh... so nice memories, and so boooring day here at the office!! ;)

Thank you both. What you said about Carcassone reminds me to Knossos Palace in Creta. It looks like a nice nowadays construction!
Perpignan is also in my schedule. We tryed good crepes near Nice, but none when visiting Bretagne! Thank you!
