Kruger National Park tipping and money
Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 02:02 PM UTC
Thanks for your previous replies. Just a couple more questions... I just arranged a night drive and bush walk at the Oliphant camp and I was wondering what is the proper tip amount? Do you tip other services? If so, what amount. Do you tip at the restaurants? Lastly, what can I expect to pay for food (lunch/dinner). Thanks in advance for your reply.

Enlarge the menus on this page . . .

. . . . . to see the "fast food" prices you can compare this to your country to get an idea of food prices in general.

Tip for good service. 10 to 15% for table service in restaurants is the norm. Fast foods might not attract any tip. Have never tipped a guide, but I see more and more people tipping them. 10%? Dunno . . . .

we tip at resaurants 10-20% 10% being the minimum

I find that so many people are struggeling and sometimes just a few rands can make theieday- when in doubt R5/10/15/20 -00 will go along long way with poor locals.

Just to add, since you are renting a car: it is a generally accepted norm to tip your petrol attendant who fills your car, and normally offers to check your water and oil and clean your windscreen. R3 - R5 is acceptable. I tip R5 in rural areas, where people are poorer.
