| Connecticut | Inexpensive NYC hotel/B&B or easy Conn. commute Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 12:54 PM UTC
I need some suggestions for inexpensive, but clean accomodations for one active 70ish woman and her nephew, arriving next week. They are visiting from a country whose currency/living standard won't allow spending a lot, but they would like to spend two days/one night sightseeing in NYC. They may be driving down from Boston. I would like to find clean (no bedbugs), comfortable accomodations either in Manhattan or perhaps in one of the coastal Connecticut towns on the route down from Boston that has commuter rail into the city. I'm open to other suggestions. This could be her only trip to the U.S. and we would like to make it the best possible, as she has graciously hosted us in her home country.

Unfotunately, the coastal towns in CT and near to NYC are all fairly expensive areas. On that route down from Boston, I think their best budget options would be Stamford, Connecticut - probably some lower priced motel chains around there or maybe in New Rochelle, a bit south in NY and along the coast on I95.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Times Square for under $200 before.
I would also suggest not driving to NYC but taking the bus...as in Manhattan she would probably not be driving anyways but taking the metro around. Parking rates in NYC are super expensive, and she can take a bus down from Boston for $30 round-trip. That is, unless she is driving so she can visit CT places like Mystic.
