Hi all!
My boyfriend and i were thinking of buying a cheap car to drive thru Chile, Argentina and possibly further north in Sth America. We have a few questions... Will the expense and risk of forking out cash for a car be worth it? How expensive is petrol? Tolls? Parking? Can you take a car across borders? What customs procedure are involved? Would we be able to sell the car after we finish our trip, most likely in Argentina? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, especially about Sth Am red tape!! Apart from the fact that cars are not cheap in either country, you would have to register it to get a valid number plate and you can't do this as a non-resident. As a resident (if by any chance you would be staying long enough in the country you want to buy the car in), you could get it put on transit plates with the intention of exporting it from, say, Chile to Argentina, but then you would have to import it legally into Argentina to be able to sell it there.
