Chamonix-Mont-Blanc When to visit?

Hi Everybody,
I am planning a journey to Chamonix in mid december (17 Dec) but I am really
worried about the snow depth. Can I make snowboarding in mid december this year or do you recommend another date? I will really appreciate your reply. I am planning to rent a car from the Geneva Airport (We are three friends). Is the road to Chamonix safe in that time of the year?

2005 was great, 2006 didn't really get going until 25 December. It's best to check local websites like http://www.chamonix.net and http://www.chamonet.com which have local webcams and you can see if there is snow or not, and also of course check the website of the lift company to see what ski runs are opened - http://www.compagniedumontblanc.fr

The road is always safe except in the very worst snow storms - it is a major highway with heavy goods truck traffic on it all the time to pass through the Tunnel du Mont Blanc towards Italy.
