I will be visiting Montego Bay on a cruise some time in December and I want to get from Montego Bay to Negril(and back). Can anyone advise on the taxi service from the dock, typical fare and the scams to look out for.

When I have taken a taxi from the airport to Negril, it has been about $75US one way, about $25 per person. I'm not sure what the day trip to Negril would cost, with the cabbie sticking around and depending how long your day is, but that should give you an idea. Make sure to set a price in advance. Expect to pay a tip. I'd buy the cabbie's food and drink during the day. Official cabs have Red License plates. I try to get the more mature, older drivers as there are some crazy drivers in JA.

I have an email address of a wonderful taxi driver in Montego Bay. Last year
during our visit there, we used her for a day trip from MoBay to Ocho Rios and back for $35 a person. She took great care of us at every stop, and really knew some interesting information about her homeland. This year in planning our trip, the first thing we did was to contact her again to arrange another day with her. If you'd like her email address, click on my userID and send me your email address.
