Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Reykjavík I need help with translations and bus routes/maps
Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 05:23 PM UTC
This is exclusively to those who either live in Reykjavik or who speak Icelandic (or both). I'm trying to figure out how to go to certain places outside of Reykjavik, from Reykjavik by bus. I know how to read maps but I don't understand Icelandic. Can anyone help me?

What is your problem? You do not have to translate names of places and in Iceland we use Latin script with a few runas just for fun. Buses from RVK you can find on www.bsi.is

Well what I'm trying to figure out is:

(1) Does S mean stop? (see link below)
(2) On the second page, are all those names above the route line the stops where the bus stops?
(3) What do the different colors in the line mean?

Let it be known that I misunderstood some things from the bus routes but the questions above are the ones I need to know the answers of to figure out how to move around.

Thanks.

1) S does not mean stop. It's for Straeto (bus in Icelandic).
From what I can see on the map, the "S" are located on the main bus terminals/hubs
2) yes these are the bus stops
3) the colours represent the different towns: purple=reykjavik, red=kopavogur, yellow=gardabaer, blue=hafnarfjordur

And all those towns are part of Reykjavik or are there other towns?

What I'm looking for is a way to visit the Icelander (viking ship) by public means but I think I'll have to take a cab hehe.

Last time I was in Iceland the boat was on land at the folk museum in Njardvik, so you have to take the bus to Keflavik.
