Hello ! You don't say where you are from so it's a little hard to judge how big a change your daughter will have when she arrives in Nancy nor what kind of yardstick she will use to compare prices.
However I really do not think you need worry have a look here at the VT Travel Guides

and you will see what a lovely place your daughter is going to. Lucky Girl!

Nancy, beautiful city, more calm than Paris, but still many things to do and see, especially Stanislas square. You get the best from national chains like carrefour, auchan, leclerc, champion, they should be in the outskirts of the city, inside you find smaller shops;prices are much lower than Paris. food market is at city center near the hotel de ville (city hall).
one year wow she will have a good time, i live near Paris myself for 4 and it has been great, wont be thinking of leaving at all.

hi, thanks for answering me :-)
we are from jerusalem, israel. i wonder about life-cost in nancy, since we've heard that europe is very expensive. we pay here, for example, for 1 kilo of tomatoes about 1 euro, ordinary read is the same,mac-donald meal is about 6 euro, cup of coffee is about 2 -3 euro. can you please tell me how are the prices in nancy? thanks again, dafna

I live in Wales, UK but spend a lot of time in France. From the examples you gave some prices are less eg Average cup of coffee =1 euro 50 (more in smart restaurants and hotels)
We are approaching winter and fresh veg. like tomatoes will probably come from southern France, Spain or further afield. Even on street markets at this time of year I guess they may be more than a euro per kilo.

Milk in France is about 85-90 cents a litre bottle, large baguette about 3 euros, 6 eggs 1 euro 50, carrots 1.20 kg, mushrooms 2.40 kg.

( I don't have a brilliant memory - I found a receipt in my bag for these items from our visit last week). Most communities have a street or covered market at least once a week and good quality produce can be bought in supermarkets.

If your daughter is going there to study she will be mixing with other students who will all be looking for the best value for little money and I'm sure she will soon find where best to shop.

If the long link above will not copy and paste, Google “ Supermarkets Nancy France” to find it.

Hope this helps.
