Krabi Help needed on where to stay
Posted: Tue October 30, 2007 01:40 PM UTC
Hi VTers,

I am beginning the planning of an epic trip starting in Thailand in January.

14/1/08 Singapore
16/1/08 Krabi,PhiPhi
19/1/08 Koh Phangan
23/1/01 ko Samui
24/01/08 bangkok
Yeah I know... packing in a few destinations in a short period of time and we may have to drop something out.

I will arrive in Krabi with a friend on Jan 16 at 10 pm. We thought we would stay on PhiPhi but I now realise that we will have to go the next day.

I would appreciate advice on where to stay for that first night and options on getting to PhiPhi, probably the next day.

Next question is:
Our next plan is to get to Koh Phangan for the full moon party on Jan 22. How should we get there and were would be a good place to stay. I would also appreciate feedback from anyone who has been to a full moon party.

This is our first time to Thailand.

Thanking you in advance. I would appreciate all advice.

How are you getting to Krabi? Flying or by bus? If flying take the local transport fromt the bus into Krabi to the City Hotel, across from the night market. From there you can take a taxi or walk down to the port the next morning to catch the ferry to Phi Phi. I'm not sure when it leaves, but they will be able to help you at your hotel.

Forgot to mention that from Krabi you can take the bus (with a ferry ride included) out to Phangan. Just go into any travel agent in Krabi and they'll let you know the schedules. The trip will take around 8 hours.

There is speed bout and ferry from Koh samui to Koh phangan and regarding full moon party, I would like to advice you to not get drunk, do not take drinks from anyone, and avoid smoking weed. Be careful and have a fun. Regarding accommodation it is advisable to go one day before full moon party and try to book hotel in Had Rin beach where party take place.

Have fun

Thanks for all the responses. We are flying into Krabi. As you may gather this has been a bit of a hastily arranged trip at a busy time of year but we have bitten the bullet and are going to do it regardless :-)

Wow, did I mess that up! I meant to say, "If flying, take the local transport from the airport to the City Hotel."

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks again for the replies.

There was no confusion. I am having trouble fnding "City Hotel" in any seaches for the dates mention so I guess it may be booked out.

Any other suggestions on where to stay in Krabi? We are now thinking we will stay 2 or 3 nights and then move on the Koh Phangan.

Thanks in advance

Tess, If I were you I would stay in Ao Nang not Krabi city. Ao Nang is near Krabi but much more confortable and more things to do. we stayed at the Princeville resort, its an excelent hotel in front of the beach and near everything.
You can see some pictures from the hotel and rooms in my Krabi page.
the room that we booked was a deluxe one.
good trip and good luck.

Thanks for the tip Fernando.

We are staying at the City Hotel, as recommended by Brotherlove for two nights. Our plan is to go to Ko Phangan from the 18 to 23 of Jan. We then have to be in ko Samui to fly to Bangkok so that my friend can fly home. I will be staying on.

I do wish I was spending more time in the south of Thailand but I will get back to Ko Samui on a tour that I am doing.

Don't you just love planning travel? I am so very excited as this is the beginning of what will be 4 months travel.

Thanks to everyone else who responded to my forum question. No doubt there will be more to come... questions from me that is.

Many thanks to all who replied. Your help has been invaluable. We are now in Krabi for 3 nights, Ko Samui for 5 nights and Bangkok for 1 night. My friend will fly home and I will stay on in Thailand until around Feb 9
