| Ko Samet | Koh Samet in Feb. Where to stay? Posted: Mon October 29, 2007 07:48 AM UTC
Hello VT:
Plan to Koh Samet in Feb. with 2 kids, 6 and 4yrs old. 1) Which beach is the best choice to stay with the mini marts and restaurants with easy walking access? 2) Any recommendation for the mid range price kids friendly family resort we can choose? My budget is no more than 2500B/night. Thanks in advance! |

Hi,
At Koh Samed, the center beach with nice sandy beach and easy walking to access things is Had Sai Kaew. But there 're many tourist there as well as it's the main beach and the most develope in Koh Samet. But for family with Kids, I would recommend this beach for you instead "Vongdeuan Beach" or sometime they're spell "Wongdeuan Beach" if you wanna search on google.. have mini mart and restaurants as well but it's not many like at Had Sai Kaew. And this resort is a nice place to stay if you can afford to pay for 3,000 baht a night.. (more 500 baht than your budget, but it's really nice bagalow) just share you some more option. http://www.vongdeuan.com/throom.htm Have a good time in Koh Samed. Lin :-)

Thanks Lin, and also thanks to leave comment to my Koh Chang page. I understand the Ao Wong Duan is the 2nd popular beach in the island. Cause I also post the question on other travel forum, and some told me to avoid Ao Wong Duan beach. And to choose Ao Phai or Ao Hin Khok which is just south of the SaiKaew beach. I don't really know why, but wondering if you remember this 2 beaches when you were there. I will also consider Ao Wong Duan cuase the boat goes there directly, so I can avoid to take the pick up truck. Thanks !!

I can only comment about Saikaew beach. beautiful white sand beach with magnificent clear water. i didn't stay over night so i don't know how much the hotels or bungalows cost. when i was there i saw many family with children.have few restaurants that serve thai and western food and a cabana/bar that serve drinks.all were relatively cheap. i ordered a plate of burger/fries + 2 12oz bottles of beer for about $4 at that time (2005). i also had a 1hr massage for about $3-$4.have a great time wherever you end up choosing!

Hi again and sorry for reply late. just back from Thai south trip ! :-)
Yes, I mostly spent time at Ao Phai beach if I go to Koh Samed. but also spent 2 times at Ao Wong Duaen. But never stay at another beach that u mentioned yet.. Ao Phai is easy to access mini marts and restaurants also.. How about this.. just an idea.. maybe you stay at Ao Phai for the first night and then rent motorbike and ride around to see another beach (about more 10 beaches on this island) and see which beach is suit you and your family the best.. :-) I'm going to Koh Samed this weekend coming for few days with my friends. We will stay at Ao Phai as usual becuase we like to out at night for some party.. Lin
