| Nazca | Peru in April 2008, Need Tips on How to Get Flight Over Nazca Lines Posted: Sun October 28, 2007 01:42 PM UTC
Hi, traveling to Peru in April 2008 and wanted to know how best to go about getting a flight over the Nazca lines. I've heard that it's best to book in advance (before leaving U.S.) but I'd like to find a reputable company either way. Have also heard that it's expensive, but it sounds worth it. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Aerocondor and Aeroica.
Hotels in Nasca (like Maison Suisse) also can arrange the overflight bookings when you stay/make a booking with them.

Go out to the airport. There are a dozen or so companies there, all in a row. Look at their airplanes. Check prices. Pick the best for you. For example, if you are physically large you may be better off waiting until the operators who have them fill enough seats to launch their turboprop Cessna 208's/Caravans. If you are small bodied you may like the operators who use 172's/182's. There will also be shorter waits for them to fill seats than for the 5-pax or 7-pax Cessnas. The flight itself will be short and g-force filled because the pilots will bank steeply in in first one direction, then the other, to give their pax unobstructed views of the lines. From the air, Nazca is a rather small site, so the steep turns are needed to keep viewers over the figures. Pre-booking from the US is bound to be recommended by those selling the service - it's the only quick way to bank commissions. But the way it really works is that pre-booked or not, pilots don't crank engines until seats are sold, nor do they fly when sand is blowing about. Pre-booking from far away and far ahead is a way to pre-book frustrations. Enjoy your brief flight.

The OP wants to try to pre-book, which is advisable, so going to the airport is not really an option.
I disagree with G-force-turns by the pilots. I am a pilot myself and gave compliments to our pilot who flew very gently (AeroIca). Also advisable to get an early morning flight as the heating and thermals are less. www.aeroica.net www.aerocondor.com.pe

Eduardo Herran is experienced pilot, has over 15.000 hours of flying, even on fighter jets. Sound safe enough? He is situated in nasca village centro cultural, ask him on flyedy@terra.com.pe.
Of course, he speaks english...

If you pre-book, you are likely to pay more and you run the risk of having your slot cancelled due to bad viz.
If you arrive to Nazca in a bus, beware the sellers who will pounce on you trying to sell you flight vouchers, they may not be legit and will disappear with your money. Book via your hotel after arrival or at the airport. All companies have similar prices. IMHO, pre-booked packages with travel from Lima for instance are a total rip-off as you can book all the elements yourself for afraction of the price. On the flight itself, yes it did make me feel queasy a bit as there is some turning left and right all the time to allow people sitting on either side of teh plane to see the lines in turn. Whatever the experienc eof teh pilot, it's stiil a small plane and a lot of turns! A.
