We need to get from Krabi to Phuket and would love suggestions on the fastest (and safest) way to get there. We've heard there are flights, but can't find anything online that we can book. Should we rent a car? Hire a private boat? (Are there even such options?) Our hotel is on the northwest part of Phuket Island about 20 mins. south of the airport. Thanks for your help!!

I do not think you can fly from Krabi to Phuket, they are not that far apart. I have just answered your post about about self drive and I do suggest that you do this. The drive is easy and scenic, plus you get the chance to explore a bit.

We just travelled to Krabi from Phuket (Patong area) last week by a rented car. A Toyota in good condition with driver, fuel etc. @ only THB 2000. We stopped at a restaurant to have Thai lunch (the driver was very friendly & helpful & helped us translate our order in Thai). We reached in 3 hrs 15 mins including the lunch break.
Just walk into any tour agency & shop for prices & you'll get good deals. You will also find quite a few taxis parked in the stretch in front of Ao Nang beach in Krabi with prices written on a placard. Being off season, you could bargain a little as well. Hope this info helps..
