Australians wanting to visit Iran should not find it difficult to obtain a visa. We recently downloaded the visa application form from the Iranian embassy in Canberra and sent it off to them. Just two weeks later our passports were returned, containing the visas. However, despite our application stating that we would be travelling there in mid February, the visas expiry date was late January! A phone call to Ali at the embassy resulted in us being asked to return our passports for alteration. Problem fixed! At no stage was it necessary for us to obtain some sort of 'number' to send with our application, as has been mentioned by some VT users.

i must agree with you

the sort of of 'number' to send with the application is not required by the iranian embassy in switzerland either (thely laughed at me when I asked - said it is a thing of the past).

glad you got visa! Please post your comments on 'Lonely Planet' web site as well since there i have came across many more aussie travelers who are interested in coming to iran, and think they cannot get a visa! so you may change their minds. take care.bye.
