Hi folks,
I'm planning a trip for the entire family to Brisbane in Feb. We are looking at 6 adults, 2 kids and 1 infant. And we hope to cover the following in 2 weeks: Farm stay Fraser Island Winery Gold coast 3 worlds + Sanctuaries Sunshine coast Moreton Bay Pelican Park Stradbroke Island First question is, is there any apartments with centralised location recommended for 8 pax based on the above? And we plan to self drive, any car rentals recommended? Is there any places I've miss out? Thanks. |

From your list you will be doing a lot of driving.
Fraser Island - it will take approx. 6 hrs to get to the barge at Rainbow Beach, and from there, depending on where you want to go approx. 2 hrs to get to Waddy Point. There are heaps of places to explore on this island and you should look at staying here a few days. On Fraser you will have to take the tide into account when you are driving. Gold Coast 3 worlds - Even though they are only 1hr from Brisbane, after spending a day in the sun it is tiring having to drive back to Brisbane and then going back the next day. Consider staying on the coast or around Dreamworld. Stradbroke Island - Straddie is easily done as a day trip and is also a very easy place to spend a few days. Depending on what time of the year you are visiting, Cylinder Beach is a lovely place for kids to go swimming and there are great headland walks for exploring. Sunshine Coast - depending on what part of the Sunshine Coast you want to go to there is still a lot of driving to do. There is so much to see up there including Australia Zoo, Underwater World Mooloolaba. Bulcock Beach Caloundra is a calm water area that is great for swimming for kids or you could go to Lake Currummundi. The winery at Mt Cotton, Brisbane is an easy 45min drive from the city centre. Hope I have been of some use to you. Let me know if you want anymore info. Have a great holiday.

Hi S,
Keep in mind that self driving on both Moreton and Fraser Island requires four wheel drive vehicles & 'permits to drive' and that a visit to both places self driving also requires a return trip in vehicular ferry which may have to be booked in advance. On both islands the beach is treated as a "road". There is a requirement also to use sandy, rutted, steep tracks off the beach which can only be used by true 4 by 4 vehicles. You may have to find two apartments because of the spread of areas that you wish to cover; one on the Gold Coast & one on the Sunshine Coast & maybe leave Fraser Island for another time as it involves the best part of a day just in transport to and from. My Moreton island page has links to companies doing tours of Moreton which I guess can be done as a day trip not requiring your own vehicle.(I have not done the day trip myself, by the way). Anyway you should have more than enough to do in 14 days even if you do not get to the islands. good luck de p.
