| Arvika | Looking for Swedish Family Members Posted: Fri October 26, 2007 03:37 AM UTC
My great grandfather John F. Lindquist was born in Arvika, Sweden around 1869, and moved to the United States in the late 1800's. Looking for resources to help get in touch with relatives that still live in Sweden. I have a few names, but don't have many resources to find out how to contact them. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please email at mnvettes@comcast.net

Try this place: http://www.genealogi.se/roots/
It's the major forum for geneaology research in Sweden. There is also a research centre at the House of Emigrants museum in Växjö since many people emigrated from that region too (see my Växjö page for links) but since Arvika is in a more northern region, also with a lot of emigration during that period, I think the link above will help you more (that's not to say that Växjö is not interesting - it has exhibitions on the emigration process at that time.

Hi,
if you have some names and they are not to common Swedish names you could have some luck if you try the number inquiry service on the Intenet. It can be found on http://privatpersoner.eniro.se/ Unfortunatley its only in Swedish but at the top there to fields , Vem Namn, telefonnr, mobilnr. = Who ? Var Område, ort, postnr. = Where ? If you skip the initial F in the name and since Arvika is in a region called Värmland type that in to the "Var" field and you vill get 7 names with addresses and numbers, some with Ameican-sounding middle names. If you want to call them just remove the 0 from the number and add 0046 instead. Example. 08-123456 -> 0046-8123456
