Aspen Budget accomodation in winter (skiing)
Posted: Thu October 25, 2007 01:16 AM UTC
We are a group of 3-4 adults, thinking of going skiing in Aspen for 5 days to a
week in Jan/Feb. We are looking for some budget accommodation ideas/suggestions.
We will be flying in. Is it cheaper to rent a car and stay a bit further away or stay closer and not rent a car.

Thanks,
Raymond

It depends where about Aspen you want to ski. In the village there is Aspen Moutain, which is not big and more suitable for good skiers only. By bus or car , you are 20 min from Snowmass and Highlands, where you can find all kind of slopes. It is nice to vary, although Aspenmountain is more challenging.
Buses run every hour(?) between the mountains, but a car makes it more comfortable to carry all the stuff. If you are planning to ski aspenmoutain only, you won´t need a car

We are intermediate+ skiers, probably won't do the really challenging slopes.

Any recommendation for budget accommodations?

Thanks,
Raymond

If you are intermediate, I think you will have some fun in Snowmass aswell. For lodges, try www.Hotels-And-Discounts.com.

Look into a lodging called St. Mortiz in Aspen. Don't use their website to check availability, it doesn't seem to work well. Call or email them instead.

Good advice on calling St. Moritz rather than booking online.
FYI here is an article that just appeared in the Aspen Times.
