I am in Mannheim and will have 4 days of holiday shortly. What can I do during these four days around Mannheim?

A good deal is the VRN Ticket 24. A 24 hours ticket. If bought on a Saturday valid till 3am of the next weekday.
To Heidelberg or Speyer you need the version for 4-5 zones: EUR 8,50
The version covering the whole VRN area is EUR 13,00.

Also worth a visit: Neckar Valid with its castles.

Only a few kilometers south of Mannheim is Schwetzingen. They have a great castle with a wonderful garden. It's on the list of candidates for UNESCO world heritage sites.

You lie in your seat and watch different skies from all around the world.

There is, of course, Heidelberg, with the old city quarter, and its castle. A portion of the Bergstrasse, (Castle Road), also runs north towards Darmstadt.
