| Brussels | Hotel in city center Posted: Wed October 24, 2007 12:46 PM UTC
I'm traveling to Brussels in a month and would appreciate your advice on good hotels. I would like to be located in the city-center (near shops/bars/restaurants).
I've been adviced to go to Metropole. Any experience with the hotel? Thanx! |

The Metropole is very central, being on Place de Brouckère, but obviously I haven't stayed there because I live here. It has a lovely art nouveau lobby (and café) but I was told the bedrooms don't live up to the public rooms. It is one block away from the rue Neuve shopping area and surrounded by cafés and restaurants.
However, anything in the general area of the Grand' Place would be fine, if you are coming by air you can get a train from the airport direct to the central station, and the Hotel Méridien is then just opposite (no noise from trains, these run underground). As the Grand' Place is just 5 minutes down the hill from the station, all the hotels in that area are equally well-located. On the other hand, for Brouckère you would have to change at Gare centrale from the railway station to the metro - which, although connected, is a good 5-minute walk - and travel one stop. You could also get off the airport train at Gare du Nord and take the underground tram 2 stops (Rogier then Brouckère) but note that the older trams are not very convenient if you have luggage, being high up and with narrow entrances.

I was very happy with the Hilton North, near the north train station. I booked on line, pre-paid for about 80 Euros a night for a Friday and Saturday nights in August (great price!)

I stayed at Radisson SAS hotel just around the corner from the Royal Gallery and the centre of town. It is friendly, extremely service oriented and they may have internet specials. rooms are very comfortable with all the necessary conveniences.

I have stayed n Brussels a number of time and as everywhere location is everythng.
I liked the Atlas hotel - near the Bourse and Grand Place. Ignore the hotels by Gare Midi unless you want to use public tranpost to get to the centre
