Isla de Tenerife Excursion to Morocco?
Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 07:15 PM UTC
Hi All - I am going to Tenerife in early March and was wondering since the islands are so close to Morocco, is there any kind of ferry or day trips that take you to Marrakesh and if so is it worth going to? I would love to visit if it is a possibility, even if I have to stay for one night. Any and all information is most welcome. Thanks

As far as I know there are no regular ferry services between North Africa and Tenerife. Sadly most of the traffic takes place in unsuitable open boats carrying poor, desparate immigrants looking for a better life - many of whom die before reaching dry land.

Fred Olsen & Co operate ferry services from Tenerife To La Gomera, one of the smaller, greener Canarian islands, well worth a visit, but I think that is all.

Even between the Canary Islands themselves it isn't always possible to do day trips by ferry, for example I went by air on a day trip from Tenerife to Lanzarote. If you get yourself to Agaete (there is a bus from Las Palmas) in the North of Gran Canaria, it is possible to do a day trip to Morocco by speedboat from there, see www.fredolsen.es. However, as the bus from Las Palmas plus boat from Agaete would take 2 hours from LP, and you have to get yourself there first, you might indeed be looking at staying the night in Gran Canaria.
Otherwise you can fly from Tenerife South (TFS) to Agadir (AGA) with no-frills airline Air Berlin (airberlin.com), and a number of airlines fly from either of Tenerife's airports - Sur Reina Sofia or Norte Los Rodeos - to Marrakesh Menara: Binter Canarias (binternet.com), Iberia and Air Europa.
