| Gdansk | Advice wanted. Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 06:00 PM UTC
My partner and I are going to Gdansk for a weekend in November. We have been to Poland before. I was just wondering. Is it cheaper or more expensive than Crackow. What are the main things to see and do in the City, is the coast near enough to go for an afternoon. If yes, how is the best way to get there.
Thank you. |

I found Krakow and Gdansk to cost about the same. Take the suburban train to Sopot; the beach is a short walk away. Tourist guide: http://www.inyourpocket.com/data/download/Gdansk_IYP_23.pdf

I will suggest the old city of Gdansk between Gdansk Glowny (the main station) and the canal; the monument of Solidarity opposite the former Lenin shipyard.

The sea is far from the city centre of Gdansk (not a walking distance). If you insist, you may take the bus (No 106 or 158) to Westerplatte (the place where WW 2 started) and it's by the sea. It's quite a remote area.If I were you, I'd visit Sopot and go for a walk to the pier and the beach.

HI
I go to Gdansk about 6 or 7 times ayear and love it. AM bored of Krakow now. Lots to do, make sure you go to see the crane, the long market etc. Food is excellent. Beer is cheap. And worthwhile visiting the carrefour supermarket ( taxi) and the madison park shopping centre. Eat at the stalls in the market, best sausage ever. Enjoy and maybe see you there as off ourselves in Nov
