| Kanchanaburi | Desperate for accommodation suggestions Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 11:55 AM UTC
We have only just booked a holiday in Thailand and subsequently have left it very late to get accommodation in January. We wanted to spend a few days at Kanchanaburi but are unsure where we should stay (let alone whether it would be available). We wanted to be in the city as we read it can be difficult getting transport to the attractions and we were hoping for something with a pool. Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.

Try Sawadee.com or ratestogo.com. They typically have very good deals and a lot of choices.

Can't help you about procuring an accomodation with a pool... but if a floating house on river appeals you, I have a recommendation.
I was there early this year and I stayed at V.N. Guesthouse. Decent enough, very cheap and a new experience for me!!! If it sounds good to you, you can write to them at - vnguesthouse@hotmail.com Tel No.: +6634514082

Hi We went on a day tour to Kanchanaburi Feb'06 and had a fantastic day, make certain you make the trip, rafting, elephant treking, train ride along the old track, lunch, Bridge over River Kwai, War Cemetery and Museum. I wished we had stayed overnight.
You can book these tours when in Bangkok, they go daily. We do not book from the hotel tour desk, we go outside hotel to a money changer/ travel agent usually within 100 metres of the hotel, the tours are much cheaper. January is a good month as the weather is less humid. You are welcome to view my Kanchanaburi pages to see what we did on our day tour. Recommend you look through VT bangkok and Kanchanaburi for tips on accommodation. I always then check with Tripadvisor www.tripadvisor.com this site has great reviews from travellers with photos. Send me an email should you have any questions. Good Luck, Mike

Hi . you will have no problem finding guest house accommodation in Kanchanaburi upon arrival. There are many places to stay. I would recommend VN Guest House. It doesn't have a pool but you are right on the river. All the guest houses will be able to arrange day trips for you at very short notice(within the hour). The River Khwai hotel is on the main street in town and it has a pool, but I wouldn't recommend it .Most of the guest houses are on Mae Nam Khwae Rd along with many restaurants, bars and travel agents, you can find accommodation for as little as 500Baht a night with air con.If you come by bus you can take a bicycle taxi (Samlor) to any guest house for just 50 baht from the station. If you are arriving at the weekend I would suggest arriving early in the day for VN. There is also the Felix Resort which is a five star resort within sight of the bridge and it has two pools but will set you back 2,200Baht a night as it is peak season. Tamarind Guest house is also very clean but basic with air con is 550 Baht a night. Enjoy your trip.
